πΈ Our History β The Story of Cattleya πΏ
At Cattleya Educational Center, our story is one of determination, love, and advocacy for children with special needs. What began as a small initiative by a group of dedicated mothers has grown into a lifeline of support, education, and empowerment for students with intellectual and physical disabilities.
π How It Started:
π₯ They initially set up their first learning space in a wing of the Vessel Hospital in French Cay.
π« As the need for more space grew, a generous family donated the use of an old library building in French Harbour, allowing Cattleya to expand.
π€ Over the years, dedicated parents, educators, and community members worked tirelessly to build an inclusive environment where every child, regardless of ability, could learn and thrive.
In 2014, five mothers of children with special needs recognized the lack of educational resources and tailored programs on the island. Driven by their love for their children and a shared vision, they came together to create opportunities similar to those available for typical children.
Cattleya has since grown into a recognized center for special education, serving children and adults with autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, and other intellectual disabilities.
π Milestones & Achievements:
π Development of individualized intervention plans for each student.
π Introduction of life skills programs and workforce training to prepare students for adulthood.
π Expansion of outreach efforts to help children beyond the center, including those on the islands of Guanaja and Utila.
Through continuous fundraising, sponsorships, and community support, we have been able to enhance our facilities, expand our programs, and reach more families in need.
