Elizabeth Peña – Founding Member & Numerical Notion Technician

Hello! My name is Elizabeth Peña,

I am a Numerical Notion teacher at Cattleya, helping children develop a love for mathematics by making learning engaging and fun.

I began my journey 14 years ago as a volunteer, working alongside other parents to create Cattleya after recognizing the lack of resources for children with disabilities. Seeing this dream come to life and witnessing children thrive has been incredibly rewarding.

My work is deeply personal. As the mother of a child with a disability, I learned invaluable lessons from him. Though he is no longer with me physically, his spirit lives on in the children I teach. I believe in patience, inclusion, and the power of education to transform lives.

Every child is a gift, and at Cattleya, we help them unwrap their potential. I am honored to be part of this mission, shaping young minds and making a difference in their lives.

Mahely Guardado – Communication, Language & Art Technician

Hello, my name is Mahely,

I am a technician specializing in communication, language, and art, helping children express themselves through both words and creativity.

Each year at Cattleya has brought experience, growth, and immense joy. Seeing students recognize letters, form words, and create beautiful artwork is a daily reminder of why I love this work.

I believe that every child has a unique way of learning and expressing themselves. My goal is to help them find their voice, whether through words or art. Education is not just about knowledge—it’s about empowering children to discover their potential.

Katia Bernardez – Special Care Technician

Hello, my name is Katia,

I am currently studying Psychology while working at C.E.C as a Special Care Technician, aspiring to become a Child Psychologist. My experience at Cattleya has reinforced my passion for helping children grow emotionally, socially, and cognitively.

I believe that every child deserves a chance to succeed, no matter their challenges. Through therapy and support, we can help them build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills.

Cattleya is a place of possibilities. I am excited to continue my journey in child psychology and be part of a team that empowers children to thrive.

Susi Salgado – Teacher’s Assistant & Proud Mother

Hello! My name is Susi,

I am a teacher’s assistant at Cattleya and also oversee the cleanliness of the center to ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment.

I started as a cleaner, but my passion for working with children led me to become a teacher’s assistant. As the mother of Glenda, a student at Cattleya, I have witnessed the incredible impact this center has on children’s growth and development.

When Glenda first joined, she was unable to speak, communicate her needs, or regulate her emotions. Thanks to the support of Cattleya, she can now express herself, speak fluently, and manage her emotions. This transformation drives my work—I believe in dedication, patience, and giving every child a voice.

Cattleya changes lives—not just for children but for families too. I am grateful to be part of a place that gives children the opportunity to learn, grow, and shine.

Doris Ortega – Staff Member & Proud Mother

I am a staff member at Cattleya, assisting in various areas to support the children’s education and development.

As the mother of Nicolle, a student at Cattleya, I have seen firsthand how this center changes lives. Working here allows me to contribute to a community that has given so much to my daughter and family.

I love that Cattleya was founded by mothers of children with special needs, creating a safe and supportive space for families like mine. I believe in compassion, dedication, and the importance of tailored education.

Heidi Moreland -Executive director

My name is Heidi Moreland and I’m grateful for the opportunity to introduce myself as the newest addition to the Cattleya Education Center. I love this work and I’ve always been drawn to this community. My professional decisions have often been based on a desire to show dignity and support to those that may not receive that from society as a whole. Having lived in Honduras for a decade, along with a background in both IDD and educational fields, I feel uniquely qualified to be a part of the work on Roatan.
